Hofburg and Museums
Fri Dec 02, 2016 12:23 pmOn Friday we visited Hofburg Imperial Palace and Museums.
From this courtyard inside Hofburg Imperial Palace, passing through the arch under the green dome would put you at Michaelerplatz (Vienna’s first round-about).
Moving in the direction of Hofburg Palace along Ringstraße, we paused for a selfie in front of Vienna State Opera.
We visited the Royal Treasury and Imperial Apartments in Hofburg Palace (photos not allowed), and I believe this staircase is located in New Palace Museum, which is also in Hofburg Palace.
While the staircase is stunning and opulent, the Corinthian Columns, rounded arches, and architraves are quite neo-Classical (New Palace was constructed in the 19th Century). And this contrasts with the Royal Apartments, which are quite Rococo.
New Palace Museum has a floor of historical instruments, incuding early pianos.
A block from New Palace is a whole bunch more museums.
