Our first two days in Munich, we explored the city. Our room was near the Oktoberfest Fairgrounds.

Große Schnecke near Deutsches Transportation Museum

Deutsches Automobile Museum, was closed for Mayday, so we postoned our visit for another day and settled for a giant snail selfie.

May Pole in Viktualienmarkt

Viktualienmarkt is an open market in the core of Munich, just around the corner from Marienplatz.

Neptunbrunnen in Alter Botanischer Garten in Munich

Neptunbrunnen, in Alter Botanischer Garten, translates to Neptune Fountain.

Neptune in Greek Mythology, is God of the Sea.

Bavaria Statue at Oktoberfest Fairgrounds

Bavaria Statue is a product of the Nationalist Movement which swept over Europe in the 1840s.

Asamkirche in Munich

Asamkirche, built in the 17th Century, is a great example of Baroque art and architecture.

For instance, in Baroque Architecture there is a lot of ornamentation and curves not found in Renaissance Architecture, but also symmetry not found in Rococo Architecture.

And Baroque Art is more idealized and theatrical than Renaissance Art, yet less fantastical than Rococo Art.

Schweinshaxe in Hofbräuhaus München

Hofbräuhaus is state-owned Beer Hall where you can drink beer, eat Schweinshaxe, and listen to live Polka.

After washing down my Roast Pork Knuckle with culturally-appropriate quantities of Bier, we experienced Serendipity attempting to navigate the public transportation system back to our room.
