Many of the original works of art from the Cathedral, Baptistry, and Bell Tower in Florence reside now in Duomo Museum for preservation.

Renaissance Sculpture was ground-breaking in terms of accurately depicting the features and proportions and the figure subjects.

Original Baptistry Doors in Duomo Museum in Florence

In 1401, Ghiberti, and Brunelleschi competed in a contest to design the Gates of Paradise Baptistry Doors, a contest which ended in a tie. The original competition panels, depicting Abraham Sacrificing Isaac in Genesis 22, are located in Bargello Museum.

Brunelleschi refused to collaborate with Ghiberti, but later went on to design and build the Cathedral Dome.

The finished product contains realistic and revolutionary, 3-D gilded bronze reliefs depicting The Original Sin, Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham and Isaac, Jacob and Esau, Joseph and Benjamin, Moses, Joshua, David, and Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.

Donatello’s Mary Magdalene in Duomo Museum in Florence

Mary Magdalene is only briefly mentioned in the Bible, but organized Christian Religion has transformed her into a huge icon.

Donatello depicts her here in a very sad and down-trodden state.

(Another) Michaelangelo Pieta in Duomo Museum in Florence

Pieta is the formal name of a depiction of the dead body of Jesus Christ being mourned over. This particular Pieta goes by the name The Deposition, which distinguishes it from Michelangelo’s other Pieta in St Peter’s Basilica.

Habakkuk was a minor Hebrew Prophet who prophecised the rise of the Chaldeans. Jeremiah is a Hebrew Minor Prophet who Lamented the Fall of Jerusalem to neo-Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar.

The cantoria, by Lucca della Robbia is an example of Quattrocento art, depicts a performance of the 150th Psalm with the musical instruments described therein.
