Altes Museum

Altes Museum, was built and established in the early 19th Century in an neo-Classical structure on Museum Island, for the purpose of exhibiting the art collection belonging to the King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm III.

This is quite different from Pergamon Museum which houses artifacts that were collected after Germany Unified and built an overseas empire.

It should however be noted that Altes Museum today mostly exhibits classical antiquities.

If you are wondering about Heinrich Schliemann and his earth-shattering discovery of Mycenae and Troy, most of Priam’s Treasure was taken to Russia after World War II.

Zeughaus

You might appreciate my other post about Zeughaus.

What’s going on behind the Fourth Wall is that we have returned to take advantage of the evening angle of light illuminating the west side of the building.
